ABOUT erbium

Deep resurfacing for structural skin renewal, refinement, and long-term rejuvenation.

At DOCTOR SHAMMI, we select technology based on depth of correction and quality of regeneration, not convenience alone. Erbium laser represents a more intensive form of resurfacing, designed to precisely remove superficial layers of skin to trigger a deeper wound-healing response.

More controlled and targeted than traditional CO₂ approaches, Erbium allows for significant improvement in texture, fine lines, sun damage, and acne scarring through a deliberate resurfacing process. This is a treatment for clients who are prepared for downtime in exchange for more meaningful change in skin quality.

By working at a defined depth, we are able to reset the skin surface and stimulate new collagen formation in a structured, predictable way. The result is a more refined, smoother and renewed complexion over time.

This approach is particularly suited to mature skin where cumulative sun exposure, textural change, and deeper lines require a more comprehensive correction strategy. Each treatment is carefully calibrated to your skin and goals, balancing depth of injury with safety and aesthetic outcome.

Erbium TREATMENT

THE PROCESS

You will have an in-clinic consultation with Dr Shammi to assess your skin concerns and determine suitability for a clinician-led resurfacing protocol, of which Erbium is one tool. This consultation is essential, as treatment is not defined by the device itself, but by the clinical parameters prescribed for your skin.

Dr Shammi will assess texture, lines, scarring and sun damage to determine the appropriate depth, energy and treatment intensity required. These settings are individually prescribed to control the level of resurfacing and ensure the skin response is safe, predictable and aligned with your desired outcome.

Because Erbium is an ablative laser, outcomes are dependent on expert calibration of depth and density rather than device access alone. This ensures treatment is precisely tailored to your skin, rather than delivered as a standardised procedure.

Your current skincare routine will also be reviewed, with adjustments recommended where required. Follow-up appointments are arranged prior to your departure.

The consultation fee may be credited toward treatment, subject to terms and conditions.

Dr Shammi prescribes Erbium as part of a structured treatment plan for clients concerned with advanced skin ageing, including deeper lines, textural change, sun damage, and acne scarring. Your full protocol, including treatment intensity and recovery expectations, is tailored during your consultation.

Erbium is a resurfacing laser designed to precisely remove damaged surface layers of skin while stimulating collagen renewal beneath. Compared to traditional CO₂ lasers, Erbium delivers resurfacing in a more controlled and targeted way, often with faster healing and a more favourable recovery profile while still achieving significant rejuvenation outcomes.

This allows us to improve texture, soften lines, and restore overall skin quality through a more comprehensive resurfacing approach, without the prolonged downtime often associated with older ablative technologies.

The result is a deeper level of rejuvenation for clients seeking more significant correction and who are prepared for downtime in exchange for more meaningful skin renewal. Treatment intensity is carefully tailored to your skin type, concerns, and healing capacity.

Dr Shammi will determine the number of sessions required based on your individual presentation and how your skin responds over time.

Each session is approximately 75 minutes and includes VISIA imaging to objectively track improvements over time.

Initial consultation $370 (new clients)
Review consultation $265

Erbium is $980 per session, per the area.

Medicare rebates for the consultation are subject to eligibility criteria. The consultation fee may be credited toward treatment, subject to terms and conditions.

Q: What is Erbium and how does it work?
A: Erbium is an advanced resurfacing laser used to improve visible skin ageing, texture irregularities, sun damage, and acne scarring. It works by precisely removing controlled layers of damaged skin while stimulating collagen renewal beneath the surface. Compared to traditional CO₂ lasers, Erbium delivers resurfacing in a more targeted way, often allowing for faster healing and a more favourable recovery profile while still achieving significant rejuvenation outcomes.

Q: Who is Erbium suitable for?
A: Erbium is suitable for clients concerned with more advanced signs of skin ageing, including deeper lines, textural change, acne scarring, and cumulative sun damage. Treatment suitability and settings are individually prescribed by Dr Shammi following clinical assessment to ensure safety, precision, and appropriate healing response.

Q: Where can I treat using Erbium?
A: Erbium is most commonly performed on the face, neck, and décolleté (upper chest).

Q: Can I have Erbium if I am pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive?
A: Erbium is not recommended during pregnancy. It may be performed while breastfeeding or when trying to conceive, following clinical assessment.

Q: Can I have Erbium if I have cold sores, fake tan, or recent sun exposure?
A: Treatment cannot be performed in the presence of active cold sores, recent significant sun exposure, or fake tan in the treatment area.

Q: Is there downtime after Erbium?
A: Yes. Erbium is a deeper resurfacing treatment and downtime should be expected. Redness, swelling, heat, tightness, and peeling are common during the initial healing period. Recovery varies depending on treatment intensity, however most clients should allow approximately 5–10 days for social downtime. Makeup, exercise, saunas, and heat exposure should be avoided during early healing.

Q: Is Erbium more intensive than other laser treatments?
A: Yes. Erbium is generally prescribed for clients seeking a more significant level of rejuvenation and who are prepared for increased downtime in exchange for deeper correction and more meaningful skin renewal.

Q: Where is Erbium performed?
A: Erbium is performed at DOCTOR SHAMMI in Melbourne only.

Q: Does DOCTOR SHAMMI perform Erbium in the Sydney clinic?
A: No. Erbium is performed in Melbourne only.

Q: Can I have a telehealth consultation?
A: No. All consultations for Erbium are conducted in-clinic only to allow for proper skin assessment and treatment planning.

Q: Do I need a consultation before treatment?
A: Yes. An in-clinic consultation with Dr Shammi is required prior to treatment. This allows for a full skin assessment and the creation of your personalised treatment plan, including treatment depth, settings, recovery expectations, and intervals. Your medical history and skincare routine are also reviewed.

Q: If I proceed with treatment, can my consultation fee be used toward treatment?
A: Yes. The consultation fee may be credited toward treatment if your appointment is booked on the same day, subject to terms and conditions.

Q: Does private health insurance cover the consultation?
A: No. Consultation fees are not covered by private health insurance.
