Hair Loss treatments
that surpass expectations
clinical consultation
To effectively address hair loss, the first step is understanding its underlying cause through a clinical consultation.
We invite you to experience an expert hair loss consultation with our founder, Dr Shammi Theesan, a Melbourne University and Harvard-trained dermatologist with close to two decades of experience treating complex hair loss cases in Australia.
Through early assessment, our team, under Dr Shammi’s guidance and medical direction, can begin appropriate management of your hair loss to support meaningful improvement over time. This consultation is designed to remove uncertainty, ensuring treatment decisions are targeted and avoid unnecessary time or expense.
Dr Shammi may recommend oral medication, her personalised protocol, or a combination of treatments tailored to your individual presentation. Following consultation, a structured treatment pathway will be developed to guide your care.

THE PROCESS
The Consultation
The consultation determines your treatment plan. Through this assessment, Dr Shammi gathers detailed clinical information to help identify the likely cause of your hair loss, contributing factors such as nutritional or vitamin deficiencies, and the most appropriate next steps for treatment.
Dr Shammi offers both in-clinic consultations and telehealth consultations Australia-wide.
The consultation takes approximately 15 minutes, and professional images are taken to track progress over time using GRO technology.
If prescriptions are required, these will be issued during the consultation and sent to you via eScripts. Any further appointments will also be outlined and guided at the time of consultation if required.
If prescriptions are required, these will be generated in the consultation and sent you via E-sripts. All ensuing bookings will also be guided in the consultation should they be required.
The Price
Initial consultation: $370 (in person or via telehealth)
Review consultation: $265 (in person or via telehealth)
Medicare rebates may be available for eligible clients. The consultation fee is redeemable against the cost of treatment.
FAQ
Q: What does the Hair Protocol involve?
A: The Hair Protocol is a tailored treatment plan developed by Dr Shammi, which may include prescription medication, in-clinic treatments, and targeted at-home care. It is individualised based on the type and severity of hair loss, as well as your treatment goals.
Q: Will I require medication?
A: Where clinically appropriate, Dr Shammi may prescribe oral or topical medication. This is determined during consultation and may form part of a broader, combined treatment approach.
Q: How soon will I see results?
A: Hair loss treatment requires consistency and time. Early changes may be observed within a few months, however meaningful improvement typically occurs over a longer period, depending on the condition being treated. Every client’s biology is different, and outcomes can vary. The most consistent results are seen in clients who take a comprehensive approach, with attention to lifestyle, diet, haircare, and stress management as key supporting pillars.
Q: Is ongoing treatment required?
A: In many cases, yes. Hair loss is often a chronic condition, and maintenance treatment is typically required to sustain results over time.
Q: Is a consultation required to begin treatment?
A: Yes. A consultation is mandatory to commence treatment, as this allows for a detailed clinical assessment and the development of an appropriate, individualised plan. The consultation fee may be credited toward treatment if you proceed, subject to terms and conditions.
Q: Where is treatment available?
A: Treatment is available at both DOCTOR SHAMMI Melbourne and Sydney clinics. The most appropriate location will be confirmed during your consultation.
Q: Can I have my consultation via telehealth?
A: Yes. Telehealth consultations are available for clients located within Australia, provided you have access to a stable internet connection. Where clinically appropriate, an in-clinic review may still be recommended.
Q: Is the Hair Protocol TGA-approved?
A: The Hair Protocol is a clinician-prescribed treatment approach that may involve a combination of prescription medications, compounded formulations, and in-clinic therapies. Some components may be used off-label or for cosmetic purposes as determined appropriate by Dr Shammi following consultation.
Q: Do I need a referral?
A: A GP referral is only required if you wish to access a Medicare rebate. It is not required for private consultations.
Q: Is a Medicare rebate available?
A: Yes. A Medicare rebate may be available if you meet eligibility criteria. A valid GP referral is required.
Q: Does private health insurance cover the consultation fee?
A: No. Consultation fees are not covered by private health insurance.
Q: If I proceed with the Hair Protocol, can my consultation fee be used toward treatment?
A: Yes. The consultation fee may be credited toward the Hair Protocol, provided your treatment is booked on the same day. Terms and conditions apply.
Q: Can the protocol be undertaken if I am pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive?
A: The protocol is considered appropriate while breastfeeding or trying to conceive. However, it is not recommended during pregnancy.
Q: What should I prepare before my consultation?
A: It is helpful to have a clear understanding of your hair loss history, any previous treatments, and current medications or supplements. This allows for a more precise and efficient consultation.
