DOCTOR SHAMMI’s most important service is the skin cancer check, an annual dermatological assessment that many clients schedule proactively as part of their long-term skin health routine.
Conducted by Dr Shammi, this comprehensive examination is designed for early detection of skin cancers, including melanoma, where timely identification can be life-saving. Any lesion of concern is carefully assessed, and if required, a biopsy is performed with samples sent for formal laboratory analysis.
In the event that a skin cancer is diagnosed, you will be promptly guided through the next steps, including referral to a trusted plastic surgeon or specialist for safe and appropriate removal.
This is not simply a check, but a considered medical assessment of your skin health and future risk.

The Consultation
You will have an in-clinic consultation with Dr Shammi, including a comprehensive full-body skin examination. Each area of skin is systematically assessed for lesions or signs of concern. Where clinically indicated, a biopsy will be performed and sent for pathological analysis to ensure accurate diagnosis.
The Process
The consultation is typically 15 minutes in duration, and may be extended if required to ensure a thorough assessment of your skin and the early detection of any areas of concern. Where clinically appropriate and time permits, biopsies may be performed on the day. Otherwise, you will be prioritised for the next available urgent appointment to ensure timely investigation.

Q: Does Dr Shammi perform medical skin checks in the Sydney clinic?
A: No. Medical skin checks are performed in Melbourne only.
Q: Can I have my consultation via telehealth?
A: No. This service cannot be safely conducted via telehealth.
Q: Is a Medicare rebate available for the consultation?
A: Yes. A Medicare rebate may be available for eligible patients. A valid GP referral is required.
Q: Does private health insurance cover the consultation fee?
A: No. Consultation fees are not covered by private health insurance.
Q: If I proceed with treatment, can my consultation fee be applied toward it?
A: No. The consultation deduction program does not apply to medical skin check consultations.
Q: What happens if something concerning is identified during my consultation?
A: If required, Dr Shammi will perform a biopsy of the area and send it for pathology. This may be done during the same appointment if time permits, or scheduled at the next available time. You will be prioritised. Any associated costs will be explained beforehand. Medicare rebates may apply if you are eligible.
